Researching Topics
As a fellow Communications Major, I've had to research thousands of different topics and material in my day. The internet is an open forum, with most of its contents free and easy to find/use. I believe most educational surroundings will involve the use of computers in the near future, as its already starting to shift gears currently. Online research is far more effective and rewarding that spending an entire day at the library. Chapter 10 in the Media Student's Book explains the importance of research. I would not be aware of half the information I know of without the use of online research. To this day, I will turn the computer on just to search about one question I have without hesitation. Its easy, free, and one of the best ways to stimulate the mind.

I agree completely. To think that if I wanted to research the answer to one question, i might have taken me hours in a library searching through books. Now, all I have to do is type in the question in a search engine and the answer will appear. Even with cell phones getting internet, to be able to have that on the go anwhere I am all I have to do is type it in. Times have definitely changed.
ReplyDeleteWe really have grown up with such an incredible resource at our fingertips. Like Brian had mentioned, I remember my father talking about having to spend hours at the library looking for books and articles. For us it is really just second nature to flip open a laptop and have everything within minutes. This ability will help itself grow exponentially with people writing more articles and books quicker with much faster ways to get their information and cited works online.
ReplyDeleteBeing able to use online resources is pretty much the most amazing thing ever created. I remember growing up with windows95 and the only thing that was really available was the Encarta Encyclopedia that only had a select number of topics on it. The internet was fairly new and didn't offer much help. People forget that Google is fairly new and is great for researching and finding out questions. I also like how the BSC website has a library link where we can look up articles of all types that will benefit our research. It really helps me because going into the BSC library with 3 floors of books and attempting to find where they are located...is crazyyy.
